2009 a great year for Pumas Women
2009 has been a great year for the Puma Women's Rugby Team. The fairly young team won the SARU bottom 6 tournament that was held in Kimberley.
In the their first game the Pumas played the team from Correctional Services. Excellent defense from the Pumas caused the ladies from Correctional Services to walk away from the game with not even a single point on the score board. The Pumas won the game with 25 points.
The team from Limpopo at first made it difficult for the Pumas to see the try line in the second game of the tournament. However, once the Pumas got the first points on the score board, there was no end to the passion the ladies played with. The Pumas beat Limpopo 42 - 15.
The ladies knew that if they wanted to win the final game, they had to stay focused. In the final the Pumas played against the Falcons from the East Rand. The Pumas battled during the first half, but came back from the rest room with a determination to win. In the second half the Pumas took the lead and walk of the field with 21 points against the Falcons' 14.
The taste of victory has brought a new unity and excitement to the team from Mpumalanga.
In 2010 the team will compete in the SARU Women’s inter provincial tournament against, SWD, Griffons and Leopards.
